The Cayuga Lake Triathlon (CLT) is organized by the Ithaca Triathlon Club and is a USA Triathlon sanctioned event.
The race is held in the Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York, home to a number of world famous wineries. Our host, Taughannock Falls State Park, about 8 miles north of Ithaca, provides a picturesque setting for the whole family to enjoy the triathlon. Entrance to the Park includes public swimming, a playground, shaded picnic areas and hiking trails. Tent, RV, and cabin camping is available, and the Park maintains a marina with a boat ramp for access to the shimmering blue waters of Cayuga Lake.
We are delighted you are considering our race, which has become one of the premier triathlons in central New York. Athletes begin the race with a swim in one of the crown jewels of the region, the refreshingly cool waters of Cayuga Lake, then bike along scenic rolling hills revealing spectacular views of the lake, finishing the race with a run near the lake shore, through the shaded and magnificent gorge trail to the Park’s namesake, Taughannock Falls, the highest water fall in the Northeast at 215 feet. Runners continue back to the cheering crowds near the start, where they will be greeted by a bevy of volunteers ready to serve a variety of delightful local treats, including the acclaimed Purity Ice Cream. Come experience this fun triathlon as an individual competitor or part of a relay team and see for yourself how well organized it is, marvel at our fantastic volunteers, and thoroughly enjoy one of the most spectacular state parks in New York.
1.5K swim, 24.3 mile bike, 10K run
Starts at 8:00 AM (Capped at 300 individuals, 18 relay teams)
Individuals must be 15 or older; Relay Teams members must be 13 or older
Note: Athletes must be able to complete this distance before the 1pm cutoff completing the individual legs in approximately these times: Swim (1 hour); Bike (2 hours); Run (1.5 hours). Please note we reserve the right to pull you from a leg if we anticipate you will not be able to complete the entire race by the 1pm cutoff time. Under no circumstances will an intermediate competitor be allowed to start a run loop after 12:30pm with a timing chip.
750 meter swim, 14 mile bike, 5K run
Starts at 9:00 AM (Capped at 384 individuals, 18 relay teams)
Individuals must be 12 or older; Relay Teams members must be 10 or older
Note: Athletes must be able to complete this distance before the 1pm cutoff. Under no circumstances will a sprint competitor be allowed to start a run loop after 12:30pm with a timing chip.
200 meter swim, 9 mile bike, 1.5 mile run
Starts at 10:30 AM (Capped at 36 individuals)
Note: Our Youth race is for 11-14 year olds (as of 12/31/14) who want to compete individually at a shorter distance than our sprint distance race.
Individual competitors in the intermediate distance race can choose to register for the "Open Amateur Wave" which allows athletes to compete for ONLY the top three overall spots (by gender). If you choose to compete in the open amateur wave you will not be eligible for an age group award. You will see this option in the "extra options" section of on-line registration. If you register by paper, email the race director if you want to be in the open wave. We will limit the intermediate open amateur wave to 50 athletes.
We have enough space in our transition area for 756 bikes. Depending on demand, the number of spots designated for each race distance may change as we get closer to the date of the race. Register early to ensure a spot for your preferred distance race.
