The Cayuga Lake Triathlon
(CLT) is proud to host the 2008 USA Triathlon Sprint National
Championship! Everyone who registers for our race in 2008
will automatically be a participant in this national championship
(i.e., you do not have to have previously qualified in another
triathlon to be eligible for the sprint national championship
race). We will also be hosting Stage 5 of the Northeast
Junior Triathlon Development Series as part of this year's CLT.
The CLT organizing committee has
decided to dedicate all of our energy to the Sprint National
Championship, so in 2008 we will only offer the sprint distance
race for individual and relay team competitors. We will
bring back the very popular Intermediate distance race in 2009.

The Cayuga Lake Triathlon (CLT) is organized
by the Ithaca Triathlon Club and is a USA Trithlon sanctioned
event. The race is held in the Finger Lakes Region of upstate
New York, which happens to be home to a number of world famous
wineries. Our host, Taughannock Falls State Park, which
lies about 8 miles north of Ithaca, provides a picturesque setting
for the whole family to enjoy the triathlon. Entrance to
the Park includes public swimming, a playground for the wee little
ones, an abundance of shaded picnic areas and hiking trails. Tent,
RV, and cabin camping is available, and the Park maintains a
quaint little marina that includes a boat ramp for access to
the shimmering blue waters of Cayuga Lake.
Thank you for considering our race, which has
become one of the premier triathlons in central New York. Athletes
begin the race with a swim in one of the crown jewels of the
region, the delightfully cool waters of Cayuga Lake, then bike
along scenic rolling hills which reveal spectacular views of
the lake, finishing the race with a run near the lake shore,
through the shaded and magnificent gorge trail to the Park’s
namesake, Taughannock Falls, which is the highest water fall
in the Northeast at 215 feet. Runners continue back to
the cheering crowds near the start, where they will be greeted
by a bevy of volunteers ready to serve a variety of delightful
treats, including the areas homegrown Purity Ice Cream, then
receive decorative awards designed by local artisans. Come
experience this fun triathlon as an individual competitor or
part of a relay team and see for yourself how well organized
it is, marvel at our fantastic volunteers, and thoroughly enjoy
one of the most spectacular state parks in New York.
Please feel free to contact Jane
Miller, (607-342-2170), our race director,
if you have any questions about the triathlon.
Good luck training and we’ll see you in
August 2008! |
